Updated: August 10, 2026 — we described how sharing actually works and how long deleted content is kept.

Updated: August 11, 2026 — three things changed. You must now be 18 to have an account (Section 2). The Host of a room may hide or delete a quote in their room, which reverses what this policy said on August 10 (Section 6). And recording another adult’s voice is no longer allowed at all — the permission confirmation that used to gate it has been removed and replaced with a rule (Section 12). This policy was also expanded and reorganized at the same time.

Updated: August 18, 2026 — two changes worth knowing about. A room may now have as many people in it as its host invites, on any plan, so before sharing a quote with a whole room it is worth checking who is in it — the People screen lists everyone (Section 6). And if the person who hosts a room leaves, they may ask one member to take it on; that person becomes the room’s Host, with the moderation ability described in Section 6, only if they accept (Section 6). Nothing about what we collect, or who we share it with, changed.

Updated: August 19, 2026 — one change with a privacy consequence. “Co-Owner” is now “Co-Host”, and a Co-Host can no longer remove a member or delete a person from the roster — both stay with the room’s Host (Section 6). In a room shared by more than one family, the old rule meant one of them could erase another family’s child. Becoming a Co-Host is also now an invitation the person must accept, so nobody is handed responsibility for a room full of children without agreeing to it. Nothing about what we collect, or who we share it with, changed.

Updated: August 21, 2026 — two corrections, one of them about privacy. This policy said every quote is private to its author by default. It is not, and has not been for some time: a new quote goes to the room you are in, and you narrow it to a Circle or to “Just me” before you save. Every quote is asked afresh, so one choice never carries over to the next. What has always been true, and still is: a quote is never visible outside the room it was saved in, there is no public option, and nothing is indexed by search engines (Sections 1, 6 and 11). Separately, the word “owner” has been replaced with “Host” throughout, finishing the rename of August 19.

1. The short version

Quotesake helps adults capture, save, and privately share the funny and heartfelt things the people they love say — most often their young children, and sometimes other family members and friends — and optionally order printed books of those quotes.

You must be 18 to have an account. The people being quoted are not users of Quotesake — every piece of information is entered by an adult account holder.
Who sees a quote is its author’s choice, every time. A new quote goes to the room you are in unless you say otherwise before saving it — you can narrow it to a Circle, or keep it to yourself. Nothing is ever shared outside the room it was saved in, and you are asked afresh on every quote.
When the quoted person is a child, we treat that information especially conservatively (Section 10).
When the quoted person is an adult, they have their own privacy rights — and their voice may not be recorded at all (Sections 11 and 12).
We do not, and will never, sell personal information. We show no ads and we do not profile you or your children for advertising.

2. Who this policy covers

Account holders — adults 18 or older who create a login. Quotesake has no accounts for anyone under 18.
Members — adults invited into a room, each with a role (Host, Co-Host, Contributor, or Viewer).
Children — the young children the quotes are about. They do not have accounts and do not use the app.
Adults who are quoted — a grandparent, a friend, a coworker. They do not have accounts either. Section 11 explains how their information is handled and how they can reach us.

3. Information we collect

From adults (account holders and members):

Name, email address, and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash; if you sign in with Apple or Google we store no password at all.
An optional profile photo.
A shipping address — only if you order a printed book.
Payment information, handled entirely by Apple (subscriptions) and Stripe (book purchases). We never see or store card numbers.
A device push-notification token, if you enable notifications, used only to send the alerts you asked for.
Referral activity — your referral code and the referrals and points you earn.
Usage and diagnostic analytics — basic information about how the app is used, such as which features are opened and what crashed, to operate and improve the app.
Anything you send us at hello@quotesake.com, kept so we can help you.

About children, entered by the adult: a first name and optional nickname; an optional birthdate or age; the quote itself with optional context and a short back-and-forth; an optional photograph; and an optional voice recording. Photographs and recordings are paid features.

About adults who are quoted, entered by the account holder: a first name and optional nickname (the account holder’s label for them, such as “Grandma”); an optional birthdate; the quote with optional context and dialogue; and an optional photograph. No voice recordings — see Section 12.

What we do not collect. We practice data minimization — we never require a child’s last name, birthdate, or photograph. We do not collect precise location or your contacts, we do not use your device’s advertising identifier, and there are no advertising SDKs in the app.

4. Where the information comes from

Almost everything comes directly from you. A small amount is generated by the app itself (referral records, diagnostic events) or comes from a provider acting for us — Apple’s subscription status, Stripe’s payment result, Lulu’s shipment status. We do not buy personal information, and we do not receive it from data brokers or ad networks.

5. How we use information

To provide the app: save quotes, organize them by person and room, and show them to the people the author chose.
To deliver the notifications you turn on — a new shared quote, your monthly recap.
To make and ship the printed books you order, which means sharing the book’s content and your address with our print partner.
To run subscriptions, referral points, and purchases.
To answer you when you contact support.
To keep the app secure, prevent abuse and fraud, enforce our terms, and comply with the law.
To share anonymized quotes — no last names, no identifying details, never a photograph or a recording — on our social media channels or for promotional use.

We do not use children’s information for advertising or profiling, we do not sell it, and we do not use your content to train machine-learning models.

6. How sharing works inside a room

Quotesake is organized into rooms — a group of people and the quotes they keep together. Who can see a quote is always decided by the person who wrote it.

Every quote has an audience chosen by its author, and only the author can change it: everyone in the room (the default for a new quote), one or more Circles — smaller named groups inside a room — or “Just me”, private to you. Every quote is asked afresh, so a choice made on one never carries over to the next.
A room is the boundary. Being invited into a room is what lets you see what is shared with it; a Circle only ever narrows an audience further. A room may hold any number of members, so before sharing a quote with the whole room it is worth knowing who is in it — the People screen lists everyone. There is no public option, no directory of users, and nothing is indexed by search engines. The author of a quote can always see their own quote.
Roles decide what you can do, not what you can see. Host, Co-Host, contributor and viewer all see the same thing — whatever has been shared with them. A room’s Host has no extra visibility and cannot see a quote another member shared to a Circle they are not in.
Sending a quote out of the app — as a shareable image, to a message or to social media — requires the Contributor role or above, plus the quote’s own author. Someone invited as a viewer can read what is shared with them but cannot export it, so a view-only guest cannot produce a shareable card carrying a child’s name and photograph. (Anyone who can see a quote can still take a screenshot, as with any photo; what we control is that the app itself does not make the card for them.)
You control the quotes you wrote. You can edit them, delete them, or change who sees them at any time. No one else can ever edit your words or change your audience — the one exception, a room’s Host taking a quote down from their own room, is described just below.
A monthly recap of the month’s quotes goes to the room’s Host, and — on a paid plan — to the members of the Circles the Host chooses.
When someone leaves a room, they choose whether the quotes they wrote stay with the room or are deleted. Quotes written by other people are never affected, and the room continues for everyone still in it. Leaving also removes you from its Circles, so being invited back later does not silently restore your old access. A room closes when its last member leaves.
If the person who hosts a room leaves, they may ask one member to take it on — and that member becomes the room’s Host only if they accept. Taking a room on carries the Host’s moderation ability described below, so it is never applied to anyone without their agreement. If no one takes it on, the room stays exactly as it is and can still be read by everyone in it, but nothing new can be added.
Any quote shown outside a private Circle never displays a child’s last name or other sensitive details.

A room’s Host may hide or delete someone else’s quote in their room

Added August 11, 2026. This reverses what this policy said on August 10.

Two different people are involved here, and which is which matters:

The author — the person who wrote the quote and chose who could see it.
The room’s Host — the person who created and runs the room the quote was shared into. In the app their role is shown as Host. Nobody owns a room; they host it, pay for it, and can hand it on.

In the ordinary case these are two different people, and the Host never touches the author’s quote. This is the exception: a Host taking down something someone else wrote that they judge inappropriate for their room. A room’s Host is responsible for it and previously had no way to do that except by emailing us.

The Host of a room may hide or delete any quote in that room, including one written by a contributor or a Co-Host.

This belongs to the room’s Host only — not a Co-Host, not a contributor, not a viewer.
Hiding removes the quote from the room’s view. It stays with the person who wrote it.
Deleting sends it to the author’s Trash — not the Host’s — where it waits the normal 30 days, and the author, not the Host, can restore it.
A restored quote comes back private — visible to the author alone — rather than re-shared to the room. The author keeps their memory; the Host’s decision about their room stands.
The Host never takes ownership of the author’s quote. Removing it from the room gives the Host no copy and destroys nothing belonging to the author. The Host can never edit anyone’s words.
A Host can only act on what they can see. This gives a Host no extra visibility — they cannot see, and so cannot moderate, a quote shared to a Circle they are not in.
Taking a person off the roster is also the Host’s alone (August 19, 2026). A Co-Host helps run the room — inviting people, adding and renaming them — but cannot remove a member or delete a person, because in a room shared by more than one family that would mean one of them erasing another’s child.

Reporting and blocking. Any member can report a quote to us, and any user can block another user, which hides that person’s content from them. We may remove content or suspend an account where our terms or the law require it, or where someone is at risk of harm.

7. We do not sell or share personal information

We have never sold personal information and we will not. We do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising as California law uses that term. We show no third-party ads, run no advertising SDKs, and take part in no ad networks or data-broker exchanges. We may share anonymized or aggregated data with service providers strictly for operational purposes, never for their own marketing.

8. Notifications and email

If you enable push notifications we store a device token to deliver them, and we remove it when the device unregisters or you turn notifications off. You choose which notifications you get in the app, and you can turn them all off on your device. We send transactional email — welcome, receipts, security notices, and the recaps you enabled.

9. Security

Encryption at rest for the sensitive fields about a quoted person — name, nickname, birthdate — for children and adults alike.
Photographs and voice recordings live in a private cloud store and are served only through short-lived signed links. They are never public and cannot be guessed by URL.
Everything is encrypted in transit over HTTPS.
Every request is authorization-checked on the server against your role and the quote’s audience — not just in the app.
Passwords are stored only as secure hashes, and single sign-on stores none at all. Card data never reaches us.
Access to production data is limited to the people who need it to run the service.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the regulators as the law requires, without unreasonable delay.

10. Children’s privacy

Children are not users of Quotesake. They do not have accounts, do not sign in, and enter nothing themselves. The only children whose information appears in Quotesake are those documented by their own parent or legal guardian, or by an adult family member the parent invited into the room.

The adult decides everything about that child’s information — what is entered, who can see it, and when it is deleted.
We ask for as little as possible. A first name is enough; we never require a last name, birthdate, or photograph.
No advertising, no profiling, no sale. Ever.
A parent or guardian may review, correct, export, or delete their child’s information at any time in the app, or by writing to hello@quotesake.com, and may withdraw permission for us to keep it.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child. If you believe a child has given us information directly, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Adults who are quoted

When you quote an adult — a grandparent, a friend, a coworker — that person has their own privacy rights, and you are responsible for respecting them.

Never public, and never beyond the room. A new quote goes to the room you are in unless you narrow it before saving — to a Circle, or to yourself alone. It is never visible outside that room, there is no public option, and nothing is indexed by search engines.
You must have the right to what you enter. By adding a quote or photograph of another adult, you represent that you can lawfully do so and lawfully share it with the audience you choose.
You may not record their voice. See Section 12.
They can reach us. An adult who believes they have been quoted in Quotesake and wants that content reviewed or removed can write to hello@quotesake.com. We will work with the account holder to address the request and may remove the content.
Their information gets the same protections as a child’s: encrypted at rest, with photographs in the same private, signed-link-only storage.

12. Voice recordings

Changed August 11, 2026.

A voice recording made in Quotesake may capture the account holder, or a child they are responsible for. It may never capture another adult.

Until August 11, 2026 the app allowed an adult’s voice to be recorded after a one-time, logged confirmation that you had that person’s permission. That confirmation has been removed and replaced with a rule. Recording a person without their consent is illegal in a number of U.S. states — California, Washington, Florida, Illinois and Pennsylvania among them — and a promise from the person doing the recording is not a real protection. Taking the capability away takes the risk away with it.

Children’s voice recordings stay. A four-year-old’s line in their own voice is the heart of Quotesake. Quoting an adult in writing is also unchanged — you may write down what your grandmother said. It is the audio capture of another adult that is not allowed. If another adult’s voice is picked up incidentally in the background of a recording, the recording should be deleted.

We do not analyze voices. Recordings are stored as audio so you can play them back. We do not create voiceprints, we do not run speaker or speech recognition, we do not use a recording to identify anyone, and we never share a recording with anyone outside the audience its author chose. Recordings live in a private store served only by short-lived signed links, and are permanently deleted 30 days after they go to Trash.

13. Deleting things, and how long we keep them

Nothing is destroyed the moment you delete it. Two 30-day windows sit in front of permanent erasure, so a mistake is recoverable.

Trash — 30 days. Anything you delete in the app — a quote, a person, a Circle, a carousel, a book — waits in a Trash you can browse and restore from, and each item shows how long it has left. After 30 days it is permanently deleted, photographs and voice recordings included.
A quote a room’s Host deleted from their room goes to the author’s Trash — not the Host’s, and yours if you wrote it — on the same 30-day clock, and the author can restore it, private, not re-shared.
Deleting your account — a 30-day grace period. “Delete My Account” schedules the deletion rather than performing it. Nothing is touched during those 30 days, and simply signing back in cancels it. After 30 days your account and everything you kept privately are permanently erased.
Quotes you shared into a room stay with that room for the people still in it, with your name removed from them, because others have been keeping those quotes as their own memories. Anything you kept to yourself goes.
Records we keep longer. Consent and acknowledgment records are retained as our compliance record — including the record that a deletion was requested, which deliberately outlives the account. Order records are kept as long as business and tax law requires.

14. The companies that help us run Quotesake

We share information only with vendors that help us operate the app, under contract, never for their own marketing:

Laravel Cloud — app hosting and database
Cloudflare R2 — private storage for photographs and recordings
Apple — subscriptions and optional sign-in
Stripe — book purchases (card data never reaches us)
Lulu — printing and shipping the books you order (receives the book’s content and your shipping address)
Expo — delivery of the push notifications you enable
Resend — transactional email
Google — optional single sign-on

We may also disclose information where the law requires it — valid legal process, or protecting someone’s safety — and in a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition, in which case we will tell users if control of their information changes. No advertising networks. No data brokers.

15. Where your information is kept

Quotesake is operated from the United States, and information is stored and processed there. If you use the app from elsewhere, you understand that your information is transferred to the United States, where privacy laws may differ from your own.

16. Your choices and rights

At any time you can:

Access, correct, export, or delete your information — in the app, or by writing to us
Choose each quote’s audience, and change it
Turn notifications on or off, all of them or by type
Leave any room, including one you created, and choose whether the quotes you wrote stay or go
Block another user, or report a quote
Cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings
Ask us anything about this policy at hello@quotesake.com

Parents and guardians may review, correct, export, or delete their child’s information and withdraw permission for us to keep it, at any time. Adults who have been quoted may contact us about content concerning them (Section 11).

17. State privacy rights

California residents have the right to know what we collect and why, to access and receive a copy, to correct, to delete, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — though we do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use sensitive personal information for anything beyond providing the app. We offer no financial incentives for personal information, and we disclose nothing to third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes.

Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws — Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana and others as they take effect — have comparable rights to access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of targeted advertising, sale, and profiling. We do none of those three.

To exercise a right, write to hello@quotesake.com from the email address on your account, or use the controls in the app. We may need to verify who you are before we act, and we will not use anything you send for verification for any other purpose. We will not treat you differently for exercising a privacy right.

Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. We do not track users across other companies’ sites or apps, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off. We honor them where the law requires.

18. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically and will post changes here with an updated date. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email before they take effect. If you need this policy in another format, write to us and we will provide one.
